Teens & Parents

I have worked with teenagers from the start of my career. Part of why I have loved working with teens, and likely what has influenced my approach to the healing work, is the realness and authenticity you as teens bring to therapy. It can be hard to find places that take you seriously at this age. Counseling is one of those places where what you say matters.Often people who come in to see me are feeling higher levels of anxiety, worrying about friendships in their lives or a family conflict. Some describe feeling more alone or withdrawn from others. Whatever it is that has brought you to seek counseling, I look forward to hearing and learning together what it is you are needing in this phase of your life.

Some of the areas I have particular specialty in include:

  • Trans individuals in their gender transition or considering options.

  • Navigating friendship dynamics and other important relationships.

  • Burnout or disillusionment with the systems in your life, including school, family, or religion.

  • Exploration of your identity and how you see yourself in this world.

Parents/Caregiver Sessions

In addition to weekly, private sessions with you, the teen, I also schedule separate monthly appointments with parents/caregivers. This is a key part of the work for me as I get to support your caregiver in their support of you.

It's important you know that your space still stays private.

There is a way to keep what is shared in the therapy room in the therapy room while also tending to the concerns, worries, or curiosity about the therapeutic process. I often hear caregivers say they have felt in the dark when it comes to their kids' care. This is really unhelpful.

When the balance of care for you and the caregiver is provided, I believe it strengthens the overall healing. I am always open to further conversations and questions about how that looks.
